Description The Beasley Back Dane Trust is a small charity run by volunteers; it has existed in one form or another for over 50 years. The Trust’s purpose is to provide and improve educational and recreational facilities for those in need, or those who are disadvantaged in some way, and to provide volunteering opportunities. To facilitate this the Trust owns a farmhouse in the Peak District that is available for charitable use, e.g. countryside holidays run by our own volunteers or those of recognised groups. There is also a weekly club in Derby for adults with learning difficulties.

Disadvantaged children and young people
Those in distress including disabled children and adults

The elderly
Refugees

2. To provide volunteering opportunities and training in a spirit of friendship and understanding, without regard to race, religion, sexual orientation/identity or politics.

3. To apply considered ecological and environmental principles to our property, grounds and services in order to limit the environmental impact of our operations.

Volunteers
Beasley Back Dane is run entirely by voluntary effort and has no paid staff. All volunteers on children’s weekends have to be DBS checked. Leaders are qualified by experience, having been supervised over numerous previous children’s weekends.

Weekend Objectives
BBDT endeavours to introduce children to countryside/outdoor/rural activities/group dynamics/social skill development/respite.

Over the years, it is estimated that approximately 300 children’s weekends have taken place.
Services Our organization operates weekends for underprivileged children such as those from inner city areas who do not get out into the country or those who are from home backgrounds where it is just not possible to give them the experience of being away from the city. We also run weekends for our Tuesday Mencap group (a regular Tuesday club held in Derby). Roughly once a month we have what is known as an improving weekend where a team of volunteers goes to Back Dane to carry on the work to upgrade, repair and generally maintain the cottage. Anybody is welcome to come along to these weekends. All help is appreciated
